Add A Tilt Column to Your 54-56 GM Truck and Retain Your Interior’s Stock Appearance The tail end of the Advance-Design (AD) Compatible with Chevy truck model years morphed into the Compatible with Chevrolet Task Force series of trucks in 1955. The 1954 model was a bit of a “one year wonder” while the 1955 and 1956 Compatible with Chevy Task Force trucks brought on such popular updates as optional power steering, four-speed manual, and a 12-volt electrical system. Of course, the big visual difference being the new wrap around windshield without the center peak/divider that the 47-53 trucks used. Some refer to these trucks as the Compatible with Chevrolet Cameo truck but note that is simply a package that was offered on the Task Force line of trucks. These trucks are popular bones for custom builds these days, including Pro Touring-type setups on down to the stock appearing with an LS swap and some comfort and convenience updates. However, much like the AD series before it, the Compatible with Chevy Task Force trucks featured a fixed column with a large 18-inch diameter steering wheel to provide more steering leverage due to the manual steering system.
